It has hit me in the face that there is no escaping the wedding phenomena.

Just turn on your tv…

Last Sunday evening I counted on Direct TV:

*4 movies with a wedding theme:
          The Wedding Singer
          The Wedding Planner
          The Wedding Date
Father of the Bride (Steve Martin version)

*5 regularly scheduled programs:

Platinum Weddings
Bridezillas
Wedding Central
Whose Wedding is it Anyways
Married Away

Oh, and have you seen the really funny commercial for nowwhat.com???

Or, the bride and groom eating Honey Nut Cheerios at their placesettings just before their 1st dance?

Even Geiko has been invited to be a best man!

What are your thoughts?

“Go Green Baby!”

I don’t know about you but I am really intrigued with the “Green” movement.   It began with realizing just how easy it is to waste things and that Mother Earth just isn’t the same anymore, weather-wise, that is.

I encourage brides and grooms to start their marriage off on the right foot with regards to how we treat our planet and try to live a sustainable lifestyle.

You may ask what is “sustainable”.   I discovered this definition:

Sustainability
Living in a way that will create a future for all people to flourish while keeping the planet balanced and healthy

For engaged couples, it’s a way of life, start now and live together knowing you both have a goal of taking care of our natural resources…your kids will be grateful.

Tips on a “Green” Rehearsal Dinner:

*host your dinner at a restaurant that uses local and organically grown foods

*use rehearsal dinner invitations that can be planted in the earth to grow wildflowers or those made of recyclable paper

*provide transportation for guests from the hotel to the restaurant via a mini-coach, fun trolley or organize carpools to reduce emissions

*toast with organic wine (www.theorganicwinecompany.com)

*if decorating, use hemp tablecloths and candles made of soy

*order florals from a local, pesticide-free grower

*if event is catered, donate leftovers to homeless shelters and use 100%compostable plastic bags for clean-up

The Wedding thing…how did it get so BIG?!?

Hello everybody,

As a wedding planner for almost 10 years, I am amazed at how weddings have become sooooooooo BIG.

I just did a wedding on 6/9th whose rehearsal dinner included 70% of the wedding guests attending the big day!

It involved a seated, plated dinner where the guests were given a choice between 3 entrees in the rehearsal dinner invitation.  The invite could easily have been confused with the wedding invitation it was so nice.

This was a case where the parents of the groom had no daughters and love to entertain….hence, a great opportunity to host 150 guests with superb food, an open bar and charming ambience.  After dinner, a round of humourous and heart-felt rehearsal dinner toasts took place and it seemed as if each table had a tale or 2 to tell relating to the groom and the couple.

The rehearsal dinner didn’t, however, overshadow the BIG DAY, nor go against rehearsal dinner etiquette.  It actually set the tone for what I have heard was the best wedding celebration many who attended had ever experienced.

I have to believe that due to the guests getting to know one another Friday, the Saturday affair was that much more of a success…I noted that night it was the guests that made the party…everyone was having SO MUCH FUN, in a BIG WAY.

So if you are planning your wedding celebration, don’t forget how important the Friday night gathering truly can be.   It certainly had a BIG effect on this wedding, BIG TIME!
